SHARON AYDLETTE
The Tenacious Tart

Born and raised in South Carolina, Sharon has been baking since 1st grade.
She watched her mom and grandmother bake family favorites and would join in any chance she could. Working for a small cafe in Macon, Georgia allowed her to learn about catering and ordering ingredients for a restaurant kitchen. Later working in an office position, she would take lunch and dessert orders from coworkers, taking dozens of individual boxed lunches every week.
At 50 years old wanting something more from life while living in New Orleans, Sharon started taking pre-nursing classes and did very well with a 3.9 GPA by the end of her first year. After beginning microbiology of human pathogens, she realized this wasn't for her! She took a year off from school to re-think her purpose when her son said "Mom, you really need to be cooking. You're great at it and comfortable doing it. Your food is wonderful; go to culinary school! Just do it, mom. Just do it." Sharon enrolled in the Pastry Arts program at Delgado College in New Orleans, Louisiana.
After graduating in 2013 and becoming the pastry chef for Apolline the same year, she never looked back!
She moved back to Charleston and started selling her desserts at a local farmers market on James Island. She saved up $300 and started The Tenacious Tart. She now works from her home-based cake studio, offering artisan wedding cakes, desserts and other delights. Sharon loves working with couples to help design their wedding cake and treats for their special day. Featured twice in Post & Courier for her baking and as a local female chef, Sharon has also made special treats for first responders during COVID-19 and continues to aid in non-profit fundraising any way she can.
Sundays are reserved for family and a weekly meal at her mother's house, joining in on the silliness, her two granddaughters bring to the mix. Sharon feels truly blessed, that she is able to do what she loves for a living. Looking back, she sees where one path leads to another, and then another, and then finally the place she belongs.
